Red, blue, yellow: the Middle Ages love colors

30 November 2023 · 8:00 PM

Contrary to popular opinion, the 1,000 years of the Middle Ages were not years of gray and gloom. In Normandy, as elsewhere, color exploded inside and outside buildings (churches, chapels, castles, manor houses, town houses), on tables and clothes, on tombs. These colors are made vivid by the many and varied lighting fixtures and increasingly large openings equipped with multicolored stained glass windows.

Marie Casset, honorary lecturer in medieval history and member of CRAHAM, will lead this conference.
