During the first week of September, the University of Caen Normandy organised a series of events to welcome its new international students. The programme included various discovery and integration activities.
An academic year kick-off marked by discovery and integration
Every year, the University of Caen welcomes more than 700 new international students. To support this global community, the institution organizes a week of events specially designed for them. The aim is to help them settle in, foster their integration, and allow them to familiarise themselves with their new academic and cultural environment.
The week began with a welcome and orientation session in the university residences. On Wednesday, 3 September, students shared a welcome breakfast and received their welcome bags. An information session then addressed their initial questions about university life and practical matters.
The back-to-school forum, organised with partners and student services, gave freshers the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the many resources available. The day continued with a guided tour of Campus 1, led by student ambassadors, and concluded on a tasty note with a Norman snack, offering a chance to sample some local specialities.
On Thursday, 4 September, in collaboration with the city of Caen, students enjoyed a guided tour of the city centre. The tour concluded at the Town Hall, a historic building with a majestic setting, where they were officially welcomed.
To close the week, the SUAPS organised a sports competition, a friendly event that encouraged interaction and helped students bond. Over the weekend, the Erasmus Students Network (ESN) Caen association took over with a cultural and festive programme, including a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, an integration evening, a tour of the Saint-Pierre market, and a pedalo ride on the Orne river.
Ongoing support throughout the year
The welcome and support provided to international students do not end with this induction week. Throughout their stay, the Carré International supports them with administrative, academic, and practical matters. In particular, they can make use of the Espace AAPI (Accueil et Accompagnement des Publics Internationaux), a friendly, multifunctional space located within the Maison des Langues et de l’International.
Meanwhile, the ESN Caen student association plays a key role in the social and cultural life of international students, regularly offering activities, outings, and events to promote their integration and enrich their experience in Caen.
The University of Caen Normandy is delighted to welcome this new cohort of international students and wishes them a year full of new experiences, discoveries, and academic success.
