The University of Caen Normandy is committed to internationalising French higher education. To carry out this mission, the University has a dedicated service – the Carré international. This service coordinates the international strategy of the university, such as the welcoming and orientation actions of international visitors, and tailored support through its Accueil et Attractivité department.
Tailored induction offers for all international visitors
Throughout their mobility, students and researchers benefit from concrete services encouraging their social integration: welcome week to discover the university and the city of Caen, Buddy System with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), help through administrative procedures…
Since 2021, the Carré international offers an area dedicated to welcoming and supporting international visitors, located in the Maison des langues et de l’international, the AAPI area. In this friendly and multiservice environment, you will find a single welcome desk to answer all your questions linked to international mobility.
The University is committed to inclusion, especially through a bridge programme, a University diploma for students in exile (Diplôme universitaire pour étudiants en exil). Thanks to this programme, refugees or asylum seekers students can pursue studies with specific academic, cultural, administrative and social support, including: help with administrative procedures, free access to cultural events organised by the Carré international, and supervision to encourage their academic and professional integration.
The Euraxess Centre: a support dedicated to international researchers
As part of the University’s international strategy and supports for international comers, the University of Caen Normandy established in 2022 a EURAXESS Centre to facilitate the international mobility of researchers.
This unique initiative supported by the European Union aims at supporting the mobility and career development of international researchers in Europe. As such, Euraxess offers personalised support to facilitate settlement in your host country. The centre’s coordinator helps international researchers throughout their stay in their procedures, whether administrative, professional or personal.
Each year, the Euraxess centre supports about a hundred researchers, improving the scientific international attractivity of the university of Caen Normandy.
The “Bienvenue en France” label: an international recognition
In March 2024, the University of Caen Normandy was awarded the 3rd star for the “Bienvenue en France” label by Campus France. This label rewards higher education institutions offering quality welcome to international students. Such recognition highlights the quality and accessibility of information, the support during settlement, the number of programmes available in foreign languages, and the integration in campus life.
The label reaffirms the quality of the services implemented by the university and the involvement of the UNICAEN community through permanent efforts for the welcoming and the support of international visitors.
Thanks to its ambitious welcoming policy and innovating services, the University of Caen Normandie offers an environment encouraging the integration and success of international students and researchers. The Carré international, the Euraxess centre and the Bienvenue en France label show the commitment of the University to promote excellence, inclusion and international attractivity.
In June 2025, as another acknowledgment of its international strategy, the University hosted the National Euraxess France Days 2025 and the Seminar of Reception of Campus France. Such meetings allowed discussions and reflections on internationalising higher education and research.
