The Carré international organized a ‘Teach & Connect’ week from 16 to 20 March 2026. This event, designed to welcome teachers from partner universities across Europe, aims to promote and enrich teaching practices as well as strengthen ties with our partner institutions.
Teach & Connect: a meeting and exchange between teachers
Throughout the week, the seven visiting lecturers had the opportunity to contribute to various courses within the UFR HSS, the UFR SEGGAT, and the Carré International. It was also an opportunity to engage with the UNICAEN teams and share their teaching approaches. This special period also allowed them to discover the university, its environment, and its unique features, in a spirit of cooperation.
Francophonie at the heart of this exchange week
This third edition was notably marked by the presence of Ms Sonja Spadijer, a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) teacher at the University of Montenegro. Her participation offered an enriching perspective on teaching French abroad.
“This week was rich in both professional and personal encounters. As part of the University Diploma in French Studies, specializing in languages, culture and memory, I discovered the work of students who are beginning to conduct their first research in a unique setting rich in archives and materials: the Abbey of Ardenne. This experience is inspiring and will be very useful to me for various research activities within my Master’s program. I also had the opportunity to attend several lectures, including Thierry Ruchot’s on discourse analysis. His way of explaining the basics of systemic functional linguistics and engaging the students is very enriching. It was a chance to see how the teaching of certain key aspects of textual analysis works in practice. The city of Caen, the campus, and the sheer number of students left a lasting impression. I am very happy with my week.”

The Montenegrin teacher had the opportunity to attend a research session for the University Diploma in French Studies, specializing in languages, culture and memory, supervised by the teaching staff of the Carré international and the team from the Institut Mémoires de l’Édition Contemporaine (IMEC). This program, which combines an introduction to research with personalized support in the design of cultural projects, perfectly illustrates our students’ interest in Francophone culture.
“I was delighted to share with Sonja Špadijer, our colleague from Montenegro, the experience we have been developing over several years with C1-level international students and our partners at IMEC. Our joint session at the Abbey of Ardenne, co-led by François Bordes, gave us the opportunity to discuss these very special moments of introduction to research, taking place in an unforgettable heritage site that we are delighted to help people discover.”
Gwenaëlle Ledot, Director of FLE (French as a Foreign language) Studies at the Carré International
Through this “Teach & Connect” week, the University of Caen Normandy reaffirms its commitment to international openness, the sharing of knowledge, and the promotion of linguistic and cultural diversity.
