On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Ouest-France Group organised the first National Artificial Intelligence Convention at the University of Caen Normandy. 600 decision-makers, experts, and officials gathered around debates, use cases, networking opportunities, and practical workshops. This unique event provided professionals with tools to understand the impact of AI and applications of these technologies in their respective fields.
An AI convention? What for?
In one year, the use of generative AI in France has increased by 60%. According to the 2024 barometer conducted by Ifop, 57% of French people regard AI as a new “industrial revolution”. However, according to a new study by Kantar, nearly 70% of French people are worried about AI’s potential consequences on employment, and 71.2% are concerned about AI use of personal data.
To address these issues, Ouest France Group decided to launch the first National Artificial Intelligence Convention – a specialised meetup for professionals to discuss these concerns. The event also aims at highlighting innovative AI applications (use cases, business opportunities, training) and current studies to ensure responsible implementation in terms of employment, safety, environment, and diversity.
Professionals, experts, decision-makers, and employees from various sectors gathered to better understand and learn about the challenges and uses of AI, both for society and their respective fields. All day long, debates and workshops also offered opportunities for networking and business meetings.
The University’s involvement
The University of Caen Normandy is deeply involved in AI through several subjects, both in education and research. As such, the historical campus 1 naturally hosted the 1st edition of the AI convention. Several expert speakers are faculty members and researchers from the University of Caen Normandy. Research teams also had the opportunity to showcase prototypes developed within the university, such as a connected wheelchair that can transport a patient to a healthcare facility on its own, or Cadomus, a guidance robot that can guide you in a new location.
The university will also have its own booth to highlight collaboration opportunities with companies – employee training, hosting apprentices, PhDs in companies, research collaborations, expert services, and more. A great opportunity discover the incredible resources of our institution!
