On February 20, 2024, the university hosted a preview of the movie “The Last Men” (Les Derniers Hommes), directed by David Oelhoffen. The event took place as part of cinema screenings organised every week at the Pierre Daure amphitheatre in Campus 1. Beyond the cultural activity offered by the campuses, these screenings also allow students to meet professionals from the film industry or university specialists.
Meeting with film professionals
The Last Men deals with the journey of French soldiers in the jungle of 1945 Indochina after being attacked by the Japanese army. At the end of a 2-hour screening, the film crew discussed with the audience in the Pierre Daure amphitheatre. For nearly an hour, David Oelhoffen, director; Maxence Perrin, actor; Mathieu Simonet, producer; and Superpoze, former student of the university and winner of the 2012 Normandie Tremplin Phénix who composed the original soundtrack of the film, took part to a question-and-answer session with the audience.
Around 300 people came to see the screening and meet the filming crew. From the historical context of the end of the second World War in Indochina to the choice of the accessories, including the script writing of the film, the wide range of questions allowed the audience to understand better the choices made during production and to learn more about an untold period of French history.
Before the screening, several pictures taken during the shooting by Patrick Chauvel, correspondent and war photographer, were exhibited in the Aula Magna, offering a different perspective on the creation of a movie.

Promote access to culture
In the audience, around a hundred spectators were students. While the screenings complete the cultural offer of the university and opens to a greater audience, the university’s priority is to promote access to culture for students. As such, students benefit from a special ticket price of €2 for every screening at the Pierre Daure amphitheatre, thanks to the financing of the Student and Campus Life Contribution (in French Contribution à la vie étudiante et de Campus – CVEC).
