A new third-location center has just opened its doors on Campus 2 of the University of Caen Normandie. Co-sponsored by AFEV and the university, La Bavarderie aims to combat social isolation and promote student well-being on campus.
La Bavarderie opened in December on the first floor of the Sciences 3 building on Campus 2. La Bavarderie is the first third-party space to be set up on this university campus, and is a place where students can exchange ideas, meet up and relax. Since its opening, La Bavarderie has been welcoming students to a convivial space where they can chat over a coffee or work together.
For Hugo Hecquard, the Bavarderie’s project manager, the arrival of this third-party space will bring about a “great mix of uses and audiences“. Initiatives to combat social isolation, prevention and health promotion will also be implemented throughout the academic year.
It was this desire “to experiment and create new actions to create links between students and enhance well-being” that convinced Camille Badilla, a law student, to become a student employee at La Bavarderie. To make this link, La Bavarderie wants to “join in the campus dynamic with the student associations present on site” to “collectively” imagine the activities to be set up on Campus 2.
A joint project between AFEV and the university
Launched in December 2020, the project is co-piloted by AFEV and the university, in partnership with Crous Normandie, and is funded under the France Relance plan.
Funding from the Contribution vie étudiante et de camps (CVEC) for the development of new spaces dedicated to two “tiers-lieux” in the basement of BU Rosalind Franklin was also approved on Thursday January 12, 2023. The first space will be dedicated to a new social and solidarity grocery store.
The experiment, evaluated as inconclusive, has been halted. Consideration is now being given to the third-party model to be adopted for this second space.
