With a time of 9’19”07, Flavie Renouard achieved the minimum requirements to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Diamond League meeting in London on July 23, 2023. This was France’s second-ever performance, enabling the IAE Caen student to climb into the world’s top 20 in the 3,000 m steeplechase.
A meteoric rise
After a season cut short by a right knee injury and a “gradual recovery” in the spring, Flavie says, the young athlete once again showed she has legs of steel. By securing a place at the Diamond League meeting in London, one of the 14 international meetings in the Diamond League athletics competition organized by World Athletics, the Master of Marketing student showed that she is a force to be reckoned with in the international arena, with an exceptional performance. Aware that there was an “opportunity to be seized“, Flavie clocked her best time of the competition, beating by ten seconds her previous record set in Barcelona in July 2023. By then, she had already beaten her best mark of 9’36”59 in the 2022 season, an improvement of seventeen seconds in one year.
With fifth place at the London meeting, she also surpassed by four seconds the symbolic mark of 9’23”00, synonymous with qualification for the World Championships in Budapest from August 19 to 27, 2023, and above all for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “A dream come true” for Flavie!
On course for Paris 2024
After a 9th-place finish in her series in Budapest, which left her “inevitably a little disappointed” even though she “gave it all she had left after a very intense season“, Flavie can now focus on her next objective: the Olympic Games. This preparation is being carried out in parallel with her Master’s degree and sandwich course. “I’ve learned a lot, especially about mental fitness. I can now handle big competitions, and I’m not afraid to go there,” explains Flavie.
” It’s hard to realize that you’ve reached the minimum to qualify, but all the hard work of the last few years has paid off. The Olympic Games are going to be great. It’s the most beautiful of competitions, and it’s always a little extra to wear the jersey of the French team, especially in terms of emotion. I’ll be able to run in a stadium with a public that knows us and will support us. It’s incredible. “
