Program

The objective is to build skills in comprehension, production and interaction in writing and speaking. This is achieved by applying the acquisition of discourse mechanisms, grammatical structures, and lexical elements to the studied language acts.

Evaluation: A certificate of participation will be issued to participants following a graded assessment.

Program

Morning: Practice of the language (24h)

French language training focuses on spoken and written communication, with a program designed to strengthen your grammatical structures, enrich your vocabulary, and provide practice in spoken French using an audio-digital laboratory.

Afternoon: Culture and heritage (21h)

Embark on a journey to discover French cultural heritage. Placement in the various levels will be decided by the teachers. The module offers a set of courses combining French language training with preparation for cultural visits and educational outings led by FLE (French as a Foreign Language) teachers. These activities allow learners to use and develop their language skills in real-life, engaging contexts.

Beginner to intermediate levels (program):

• French society and culture
• French gastronomy

Intermediate to advanced levels (program):

• History of Normandy
• Writers from Normandy
• Art in Normandy: Architecture

Evaluation: A graded certificate will be issued to participants

Program

Specialization in teaching French as a foreign language (FFL)

This module aims to provide general teacher training that presents the principles and current issues in FFL teaching. Trainees will be encouraged to explore different fields of study from this perspective:

• Teaching oral language
• Working with authentic documents in FFL – cinema
• Integrating grammar and communication in FFL at beginner levels

The teaching methods will be varied (theoretical elements and practical applications). They will include case studies, analyses of teaching materials, and opportunities to exchange practices in order to compare linguistic contexts and school cultures. 

Terms and conditions of participation

Participants must be able to demonstrate at least a B1 level. In addition, their professional background and level of studies will be reviewed at the time of enrolment.

Program in French

Specialization in Medieval Latin

Begin studying medieval Latin in the heart of Normandy!

This summer course is aimed at absolute and non-absolute beginners, whether students or not, who are eager to discover this language of the Middle Ages through a lively, oral, and engaging approach inspired by modern language pedagogy.

Between the sea and medieval landscapes, you will explore Latin as it was spoken and written in medieval chancelleries and abbeys, beginning with the chronicles of Mont Saint-Michel, the Bayeux tapestry, and the Gesta Guillelmi by William of Poitiers.

On the program: interactive lessons, guided visits in Medieval Latin, and daily practice of the language in an engaging and friendly atmosphere.

A journey through time, history, culture, and rediscovered words, aimed at reviving medieval Latin in the places where it has left its most remarkable traces.

Program

These programs are open to anyone aged 18 and over, with no prior diploma or level in French required, except for Session 2, where complete beginners are not admitted. A sufficient number of participants is required for a session or a particular level to open.

Student rooms in the university campus residence

A furnished single room of approximately 9m2, located in one of the CROUS University residences, 15 minutes by tram from the Maison des Langues et de l’International. The room is equipped with a shower and an individual toilet, and students can enjoy unlimited free internet access (Wi-Fi or wired, depending on the building).

The residences shared collective kitchens, allowing students to cook and eat in their rooms. A launderette is also available, payable by credit card.

Stay with a host family

The Carré International collaborates with an association of families in Caen offering half-board accommodation during summer school. This option has several advantages: breakfast and dinner are included, and you can enjoy from a unique immersive experience of French life. It is the ideal way to complement your French studies.

Lunches can be taken in a CROUS restaurant or cafeteria at an average rate of €7,55 per meal (the meal includes a starter, a main course, and a dessert).

Campus 1, located in the heart of the city, also provides quick access to the many restaurants in the city centre.
