The flagship event of the Fête de la science in Normandy, the Caen Science Village, returns to Campus 2 on October 13, 14 & 15, 2023. With over 80 activities, this event is the biggest science outreach event of the year.
The Caen Science Village offers three days to discover science in all its forms. On the program: 39 workshops/games, 13 conferences, 13 exhibitions, 4 tours. Here’s a closer look at what’s on !
Art – Soudain Toujours
Discover Soudain toujours, the monumental art-science work by artist Guillaume Cousin. A veritable “sculpture of air”, it makes the movement of air visible.
Concert – Labotanique
A concert where plants sing ? Sounds unreal, but that’s exactly what Labotanique, a duo made up of Ronan Moinet and Thomas Cochini, offers ! These two engineer-musicians have invented a machine capable of translating the natural electrical conductivity of plants into a musical language. As the closing event of Caen’s Village des Sciences, come and enjoy a concert of a new kind, revealing the voice of plants !
Game workshop – Battle Royale
Bananas are radioactive, true or false ? Battle Royale comes to the Village des Sciences! Are you ready to battle it out? Students from the University of Caen Normandie are organizing a “Battle Royale” in which teams compete in five rounds of quizzes, rebus, riddles, true or false. It will focus on general scientific culture, with some notions of electronics and mechanics. The questions will be simple in the first round, but will become more difficult as you progress through the game. At the end of a round, the team with the fewest cards is eliminated. The remaining teams continue the adventure, and a new round begins. To win, cooperation and team spirit are essential !
“The public can take part in Battle Royale by registering on-site on the day. Every 30 minutes, a game will be launched. The game is a fun way to learn more about science. The questions asked, such as “Will jumping in an elevator save you, true or false?”, are far from the cliché of science, often perceived as impossible to understand and boring. This weekend, I’ll be acting as moderator, which means I’ll be asking the questions. There will also be a referee and people at the reception desk for registration, awarding prizes to the winning teams, and explaining the rules.” – Lisa, L2 Electronics, Electrical Energy and Automation student
Workshop – NanoDream
Explore the invisible with NanoRêve ! Dive into the infinitely small with an immersive virtual reality experience, designed by LCS researchers to see what’s hidden at the heart of matter, on a molecular scale. Put on a headset, take a joystick in hand, and set off to discover the infinitely small. Thanks to a screen, you can follow the user’s journey into the heart of the material in real time.
… and much, much more!
The Caen Science Village is organized by the Université de Caen Normandie, in partnership with the Région Normandie, the Académie de Normandie, Le Dôme, Communauté urbaine Caen la mer, the Ville de Caen, CNRS, ENSICAEN, GANIL, CYCERON, URCPIE Normandie, Builders, NXP.
